Wells Cathedral School is renowned for its music, and Cedars Hall is designed to provide professional-quality facilities with flexible spaces for rehearsal, performing and recording.
Located near the Grade II listed Cedars House, Cedars Hall is sunk into the ground to minimise its visual impact. Its sympathetic materials palette includes weathering steel, timber and clear glazing. The hall’s double-curved timber roof with clerestorey windows is central to the scheme.
Designed to world-class acoustic standards, some elements serve dual purpose; such as panels housed within the coffered voids which moderate sound as well as forming the hall’s aesthetically-dramatic centerpiece.
