Garsington Opera

Momentum worked from concept to completion on the creation of this new state-of-the-art demountable opera house.

The main challenge was to create a lightweight structure strong enough to carry the technical loads over the auditorium and resist environment loads without excessive movement.

This was achieved using lightweight steel truss frames at relatively close centres. All elements were designed as modular palettes for speed of erection. Stringent international acoustics standards were met by the introduction of features such as curved cladding and a rain- suppression mesh.

Described by The Telegraph as a ‘contender for the best opera house in the world,’ Garsington Opera has won numerous awards.
