Contemporary Applied Arts, based in central London, was founded in 1948 to promote and champion British craft.
For “The Crafted City project”, a week of informative and interactive events designed to demonstrate excellence in craftsmanship in May 2015, the CAA required a specially-crafted pop up pavilion.
Allies and Morrison were asked to design the pavilion and Momentum Consulting Engineers were asked to develop the design into a simple, engineered solution. The structure had to be low cost, self-build, demountable and easy to erect in a central London courtyard. The pavilion was to show off contemporary applied art and provide space for outdoor dining.
