We undertook a major refurbishment of Ustinov Studio to create a more focused space suited to the intense cutting-edge theatre it programmes.
The scheme centred around the insertion of a new gallery into the existing shell, combined with an increased seating rake and a lowered area in front of the stage to refocus the entire space. We improved the technical staging, flying and lighting with a small flying system introduced onto a technical bridge over the stage.
The structural engineering design required great attention to detail to deliver the extremely high level of specification; exposed structure and minimal finishes define the character of the space.
