Avon Gorge Hotel

Overlooking Brunel’s famous Clifton suspension bridge, The Avon Gorge Hotel enjoys one of the finest views in Bristol. The hotel opened in 1898 to welcome the aristocracy as they enjoyed ‘taking the waters’ at the Royal Clifton Spa next door.

Momentum was commissioned to support an ambitious programme to refurbish this 76-bedroom hotel. The brief was to deliver the highest standards of design while preserving the hotel’s individual character.

The projects included reviewing the Grade II listed ballroom and roof to explore the potential locating essential mechanical plant within its fabric; advising on emergency repair works; and undertaking an extensive survey of the terraced gardens’ historic masonry-retaining walls in order to develop repair schedules.
