Building on a long term relationship with Garsington Opera and the Wormsley Estate, Momentum were the civil and structural engineers for the new Garsington Studios, a purpose built venue for music recordings and rehearsals.
The main structure features two 15m clear span studios which are the same size as the Opera Pavilion stage, whilst a third features a dance floor and mirror wall for movement rehearsals. The studios are acoustically optimised and feature raised gallery walkways and the space to bring in scenery, lighting rigs and other technical equipment.
Ancillary rooms include coaching and practice rooms, production, company and wardrobe spaces. There is also a cafe and several meeting spaces.
Momentum were able to apply their understanding of opera venues, based on experience of working with the Royal Opera House, Glynebourne and Garsington Opera, to assist with the design and development of the rehearsal spaces.
