The Chichester Festival Theatre Nest is a 120-seat fringe studio dedicated to supporting emerging artists and producers.
Designed with a 5-year lifespan, the temporary structure features a reused modular auditorium frame system set upon a timber grid and surrounding deck.
Momentum delivered the structural calculations, drawings, and foundational design criteria for the surround floor deck, access ramp, and auditorium foundation structure.
To minimise site impact, the entire studio is supported on low-carbon, hand-installed screw piles. The space specifically reuses a Modtruss structure sourced from a previous deployment at the Pleasance Theatre, which is enveloped by a low-carbon timber walkway and unique upcycled fairground dodgem track cladding.
Bolted connections were specified throughout to facilitate seamless future deconstruction and full material reuse beyond the project’s lifespan.
