2012 London Olympics - Aquatics Centre

The Olympic Games overlay required legacy venues to be adapted to accommodate much larger numbers. It required the Aquatics Centre to expand its seating from a planned long-term capacity of 2,500 to 17,500. Two large temporary stands were added to the legacy structure in the form of angular wings 50m above the ground.

We undertook the detailed design of the cladding of these stands which used a combination of tensioned phthalate-free PVC membrane and mesh to cover the total 20,000m2  area.

We also designed connections into the primary steel frame and worked closely with the contractor on the highly-complex installation.
