2012 London Olympics - Waterpolo

The demountable 5,000-seat Waterpolo venue on the Olympic Park is deemed to have created an emerging form of temporary architecture for future Olympic Games.

The sustainable, economic design was based on a ‘kit of parts’ sourced from and returned to the supply chain.

Small bespoke elements were included to lend the structure individuality, such the addition of wedge connectors to straight sections of truss, which lifted the profile and gave the structure its unusual silhouette, while at the same time assisting rainfall run-off.

The project was winner of a Civic Trust Award 2013.
