Ely Museum

The Grade 2 listed building housing Ely Museum is a former gaol dating from the 13th century.

It was converted to a museum in the 1990s with the addition of a single storey extension and a number of internal modifications.

The recent project, led by HAT Projects Architects, consists of renovations to the historic building and the addition of a second storey and an extension.

Momentum provided civil and structural engineering design to the project.

Structural modifications within the older part of the building included the removal of 1990s interventions to open up the space, and the addition of a new stair.

The new storey to the extension is timber-framed with an exposed timber and plywood stressed skin roof.
