Royal Veterinary College

The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) is the oldest, largest and only independent veterinary school in the United Kingdom. The RVC Hobday Building in Camden is a large purpose built structure dating from the inter-war period. The building currently functions as a university campus with lecture theatres, research laboratories, offices and social spaces.

The project involved the restoration and renovation of the existing building to enhance and augment the teaching, learning, research and study areas at the campus. This includes new research laboratories, a courtyard cafe area, mezzanine floors to create social areas, a 4 storey toilet block and refurbishment work to the main entrance including an accessible ramp.

Momentum provided structural and civil engineering services for the works. Some of the challenges included working with an existing historical structure, developing alterations to suit a constrained site, relocating heavy plant and laboratory equipment and designing to suit phasing requirements in order to maintain continual operation of the university.
