Momentum provided civil and structural engineering services to an international artist, working in association with MRJ Rundell and Associates.
Works included raising the level of the ground floor to limit the potential for flood damage, and modifying an existing steel portal frame structure to make it capable of supporting heavy, high-performance external cladding and high interior loads.
In the main exhibition space, galleries cantilever from structural steel frames, allowing for the display of heavy artworks. Thick concrete walls provide further opportunity to support large artworks, and at the western end the walls form an enclosure for stairs finished in fair-faced concrete, in keeping with the project’s extremely high specification.
