A new 5-storey building that provides new workspace to meet the requirements of contemporary London businesses. In particular providing better environmental quality and performance and shared meeting and social facilities.
The new building replaced a 1970 concrete framed building which was no longer fit for purpose.
The central London site provided a number of challenges including construction adjacent to the London Overground line to the east of site, and building over a large Thames Water storm relief sewer to the south of site. This required the design of a large transfer structure at foundation level.
The site is located within the Kingsland Road Conservation Area, with a number of listed buildings nearby.
To reflect the historic construction of the local buildings and ensure a high quality crafted finish, with real longevity, the building facade is hand laid, self-supporting brickwork. This required careful design and detailing to ensure the facade worked with the steel frame.
