Unusual HQ is a new headquarters office for Unusual
Rigging, a rigging company in Northamptonshire.
Located on a large industrial site, the new HQ has allowed the
expansion of the company’s operations by making available
the warehouse where the offices were originally based.
A new 2-storey Passivhaus office building that features a
glulam frame on a regularised grid to maximise efficiency.
The external envelope is a panellised timber system from
sustainable sources.
The project included a number of innovative sustainable
products including Egger board floor diaphragms, and is the
first pilot project in the world to use Adaptavate
Breathaboard; a carbon sequestering alternative to
plasterboard.
The design also includes on-site rainwater attenuation
further reducing the building’s environmental impact.
