Maggie's Centre

Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

Dow Jones Architects were commissioned to design a centre for the Velindre Cancer Care Centre, a specialist cancer hospital in Whitchurch, North West Cardiff, in 2011.

The new building is located on a triangular shaped site. Visitors are taken on a journey through an intimate courtyard garden, into a range of calm spaces which focus on the nearby trees and garden.

The building has a serious of pitched roofs which, along with the external walls, are clad in corrugated weathering steel.

The interior spaces are formed between Douglas Fir lined walls which have a warmth and softness, and contrast with the sleek polished concrete floor.

Maggie's Centre received a Civic Trust Award 2020.
