Commissioned by Bristol based art producers, SITUATIONS, Momentum consulted on the unique design of the Sanctum project, a collaboration between Theaster Gates and ATC.
Erected within the ruins of the bombed out 12th century Temple Church in the centre of Bristol, Sanctum was a performance space which showcased the vibrant Bristol community.
Made from recycled materials, including doors from Easton's Greenbank chocolate factory and wood from the Prince Street swing bridge, it was open for 24 hours a day across 24 consecutive days and involved over 2,500 performers.
The project was funded by the Arts Council England Exceptional Fund and the Henry Moore Foundation in partnership with English Heritage. It was also shortlisted for two Structural Timber Awards 2016 within ‘Low Energy’ and ‘Engineer of the Year’ categories.
