A lightened contemporary oak framed house on the site of a derelict group of tuberculosis sanatorium buildings, set in an idyllic woodland clearing.
On plan the house is a bold, curve cradling the end of a dewdrop shaped lake which completes the enclosure to the front of the house. A simple mono pitched, sedum roof is supported on nine tree-like, green oak columns perched on load bearing masonry and precast concrete floors. The use of materials and arrangement of bedrooms downstairs makes practical and constructional sense. The more cellular form of bedrooms is kept within heavier materials, allowing a light open plan living space above to enjoy views.
Ground source heat pumps, solar thermal and PV panels ensure a Code 5 rating is achieved.
